THIS DAY IN HISTORY
The Diet of Worms in 1521, an assembly opened by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, dealt with the question of Martin Luther's recalcitrant behavior. Luther was asked to retract his teachings condemned by the pope, and he refused. For a week, various theologians argued with him, but he would not change his position. On April 26, Luther was formally declared an outlaw in the Edict of Worms, and the lines of the Reformation were thereby hardened. MORE HERE

Luther is one of my top 5 favorite dead guys. Here's just a taste:

'I am more afraid of my own heart than of the pope and all his cardinals. I have within me the great pope, Self.'

'If I am not allowed to laugh in heaven, I don't want to go there.'

'Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave.'

'Pray, and let God worry.'

'Who loves not women, wine and song remains a fool his whole life long.'

'I am afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the heart of the youth.'
