BETTER TO BE POOR and KNOW GOD?

YEP!

"Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith" (Prov. 15:16).

'The revenues of the wicked bring trouble with them. Here in this passage we are taught to make a double comparison, using two variables. It should be obvious that to be wealthy and blessed by God is better than to be wealthy and cursed by Him. In the same way it would be better to be poor and blessed by God than to be poor and cursed by Him. But we are given here a means of "weighting" these values when we are told that it is better to be sitting down to yet another thin soup meal, and the ability to give thanks for it, than to have mounds of treasure, and trouble along with it. This teaches us what our priorities must be.'

Isn't 'making money' the purpose of our consumerist economic empire of america? Many american Christians seem to read the verse this way, 'better is much with little or no fear of the Lord than great poverty and trouble therewith'. James Dobson (founder of Focus on the Family)said the greatest reason for why families fail to raise godly, mature children is the need(greed) for both parents to work outside of the home,full-time, during the child-rearing years. The rat raise of make more, more, more forces an atmosphere of insecurity, law and unrest within this home. What is the priority of such a home?
