I've been reading some books by John Owen based on the recommendations of many who believe his works to be among the greatest on Christian theology and Christian living. I must say, after reading just a little of Owen, that for this public schooled, country boy from Throckmorton, Texas, I'm in way over my head.

Even though difficult to read Owen, I will have to agree with Sinclair
Ferguson when he said;

'To read his works is inevitably to come to the conclusion that much contemporary Christian literature seems like wood, hay and stubble by comparison with the gold, silver and precious stones with which this master builder worked. . . .'

To read John Owen is to enter a rare world. Whenever I return to one of his works I find myself asking “Why do I spend time reading lesser literature?”
—Sinclair B. Ferguson

Currently, I'm reading through, 'Overcoming Sin and Temptation'. His work on the 'Glory of Christ' I plan on reading again and again till I die.
