We watched this movie last night. Robert Duvall won an oscar for best actor for this 1982 film. The story follows the life of Mac Sledge(Duvall), a former famous country singer, in rural central Texas and his road from alcoholism and depression to freedom through the tender mercies he receives from a poor, young widow and her son. The friendship enables him to find inspiration to resume his career without being enslaved to his ambition..

Watching the trailer we almost turned it off because of the corny 80s country music but stuck with it and really enjoyed this story of a man filled with hopelessness who is changed by love.
